Community Event - EO-enabled MRV for Nature-based Solutions and Carbon Management
Description
The session aims to demonstrate how Earth Observation can support practical implementation in areas such as Nature-based Solutions, carbon farming, land monitoring, and climate policy. It will explore the conditions needed for EO-based information to be trusted and used in practice, including transparency, consistency, validation, and credibility. Another objective is to examine how EO can contribute to the development of monitoring, reporting, and verification systems that are efficient, repeatable, and applicable across large areas.
The session will also seek to show how different sources of information, including EO, in-situ observations, modelling, and socio-economic data, can be combined into operational systems that support reporting and decision-making. Through practical examples, including national experiences such as Colombia and user-oriented applications in carbon and NbS contexts, the discussion will identify lessons learned from implementation. Finally, the session aims to highlight the partnerships, standards, governance approaches, and user engagement efforts required to move from isolated pilot activities towards broader and more sustained adoption.
