Wei Yang

Biography

Wei Yang currently serves as a Senior Expert for the UNESCO Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025-2034) in Paris Headquarters. He is a Professor at the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ITPCAS), and also serves as Director of the CAS Muztagh Ata Westerly Environment Comprehensive Observation and Research Station. His research focuses on glacier changes, their mechanisms and related disasters on the Tibetan Plateau. Elected to the CAS Youth Innovation Promotion Association in 2015, he was awarded the Royal Society Newton Advanced Fellowship in 2017. He has organized and participated in multiple large-scale scientific expeditions to the Tibetan Plateau, and in recent years, he has led and participated in various research programs, including the Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition, CAS Strategic Priority Research Programs, and China-Switzerland international cooperation projects.
