
Yuqi Bai
Biography
Yuqi Bai is a Full Professor of Earth and Space Informatics at the Department of Earth System Science, Tsinghua University. His research primarily focuses on spatial data infrastructure, with particular applications in land cover mapping, as well as the monitoring and assessment of wildfire events and their associated environmental and human health impacts.
He has been actively engaged with the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) since early 2005. In his previous GEO roles, he served as Task Lead for the GEOSS Component and Service Registry and held key positions within the GEOSS Infrastructure Implementation Board, the GEOSS-EVOLVE initiative, and the GEO Post-2025 Strategy Working Group.
Currently, Dr. Bai holds several concurrent roles within GEO. He serves as Co-Chair of the ExCom Rules of Procedure (RoP) Task Force, Chair of the ExCom GEO Director’s Performance Evaluation Task Force, and Co-Chair of the GEOSS Infrastructure Development Task Team (GIDTT). He is also an alternate member of the GEO Programme Board and Co-Principal Investigator of the GEO Wildfire-Health Nexus initiative.
Beyond his GEO commitments, Dr. Bai is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). He currently serves as the Convenor of Working Group 7 under ISO/TC 211 (Geographic information/Geomatics), leading standardization efforts covering geospatial metadata, addressing, ontology, classification systems, and land administration domain model.
