Pier Carlo Sandei is the Senior Programme Officer of UNEP in Kyiv, Ukraine leading and coordinating UNEP’s delivery in the country since March 2023. He brings over two decades of experience in environmental policy, sustainable development, and international cooperation.

Previously, he served as Senior Partnership Advisor for Climate Energy and Nature in UNDP Brussels office, where he led the policy dialogue between UNDP and EU Institutions on Sustainable development and in particular on Energy, Climate and Environment. He also held senior leadership roles as Senior Advisor to and Head of the Office of the Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and as Director of the Africa Centre for Climate and Sustainable Development in Rome, also serving as UNDP representative in Italy.

His earlier career includes supporting global policy processes, notably as Special Advisor to the Presidency of the G7, contributing to the preparation of the G7 Environment Ministers Meeting and related outcomes. At UNEP Vienna, he acted as Coordinator of UNEP engagement in South Eastern Europe, where he developed a solid portfolio of GEF and GCF projects of more than 30M USD.
